HP TouchPad Not As Good As iPad

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

HP stresses that webOS is a platform and that the TouchPad is just one iteration of it. The company plans to add the operating system to numerous devices, including laptops, and hopes that this scale will attract many more apps. And it pledges continuous updates to fix the current shortcomings.
But, at least for now, I can’t recommend the TouchPad over the iPad 2.

One thing that interests me about companies like Apple compared to others such as HP, and Google is that when it comes to hardware, Apple seems to know how to finish. By finish I mean you wouldn’t find a first run hardware product from Apple to be buggy enough to require consistent reboots. When you buy an Apple product, they make sure that it just works.

TEXT MESSAGES MARKED UP OVER 7000%

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Verizon and other cellphone companies mark up the cost of text messages by at least 7314% when compared to their rates for data transfer services.

Efforts like Apple’s iMessage coming out for iOS devices and Apps like WhatsApp ,GroupMe, and Kik are going to have a serious effect on revenue for these cell phone companies. I plan on reducing my text messaging plan to the lowest possible amount – maybe even all together as soon as iOS5 becomes public in the fall.

Congressional Budget Office warns of debt explosion

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Tax collections could keep pace with those costs if Congress permitted the George W. Bush tax cuts to expire on schedule in 2012 and allowed the alternative minimum tax to hit millions of additional households, the CBO said. But under current tax policies, the CBO said, tax collections would barely cover the cost of the health and retirement programs alone by 2035.

High Fructose Corn Syrup By Any Other Name

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

To combat the bad press and growing desire of Americans to eat real food, the HFCS Industry has decided to change the name of its product to “corn sugar.” The FDA has to approve the name change, but that shouldn’t be a problem. Virtually all of the people who work at the FDA previously worked in either the manufactured food or pharmaceutical industry, and at better money.

In America, what happens when we find out a product hidden in our food is unhealthy? We change the name.

Chart Comparison: Apple VS Rim

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Although Apple sells lots of computers and the iPhone does not make up all of Apple’s revenue, I thought it would be interesting to compare both Apple and Rim stock prices and see some of the major milestones of each in terms of the mobile phone market.

It’s very interesting to see how RIM bought a several companies and each time saw it’s stock dive soon after, while Apple continued to focus on making the iPhone better year after year with things like the App Store (not noted in the chart).

You’ll also notice that Apple and Rim went in completely opposite directions around the time that RIM bought Torch Mobile and Apple released the iPhone 3GS.
